The ACRL/NY Distance Learning Discussion Group is pleased to sponsor a meeting on Friday May 15, from 9:30-11:00 am at the Mercy College, Manhattan campus (66 W 35th St, New York, NY — map ).
Join us for coffee/noshes as we talk with our colleagues about library services to Distance Learners, share tips and tricks, catch-up on OLC/Merlot conference highlights and talk about using LibGuides to start a Scholarly Conversation.
Many institutions use LibGuides as a platform to provide 24/7 information to online learning students, in a highly ADA-compliant format. While provision of service through LibGuides need not be static, it does require purposeful design to have LibGuides move beyond pathfinder to become a platform to create and sustain scholarly conversations.
Using Alison Hicks’ recent hybridpedagogy article as a springboard for conversation, the DL Discussion Group looks forward to speaking with DL colleagues about their philosophy behind the creation and use of LibGuides, focusing on ways that we can avoid the “oppression” trap, especially among those online learning students we may never “see”.
